What is the Windows Registry? The windows registry is simply a database that the operating system uses to keep track of relationships between the hardware and the software on the computer system. The registry keeps track of important start-up options, and knows all the software that’s installed on the computer. That is why it is important to keep the registry clean in Windows.

Back in the days of Windows 95, each program had separate .ini files that kept track of each individual configuration for all the software that was installed. The problem with that was, because each program had a separate .ini file, they were scattered all over the hard drive, and too hard to keep track of. Then they decided to consolidate all of that information in a central database (ie the Registry) for easy access, and efficient work. The problem with having everything in one spot, however, is if that one location gets damaged or tampered with in the wrong way (accidents, viruses/spyware, kids maybe?), it could render the entire system unbootable and would require someone with some technical know-how to re-install the operating system software. In the most mild case, it would render a particular piece of software useless until a re-install occurred.

Over time, and especially after continuous Internet and Computer use, the registry information can build up. Programs that were uninstalled leave traces behind in the registry. Spyware that automatically downloads to your computer as you are browsing puts information in there. Eventually, the registry can get bogged down. Think of it as a big office desk. When you first get it, it is nice and clean. Everything is organized an you know where to find whatever you want. Imagine if you continued to use it everyday you were at work but didn’t clean up after yourself. Eventually there would be piles of papers scattered everywhere. Pens in the wrong places, books at the bottom stack of outdated documents?a big mess to say the least. Imagine what that would do to your work. You would be less efficient because it would take you longer to find what you needed to get your job done.

The registry works the same way, and I’ll re-iterate the importance of keeping your registry clean in windows. But how do you clean the registry? You certainly don’t go into it with ‘regedit’ and do it yourself if you have not had any training and you don’t know what you are doing. That can be worse than letting your system get bogged down because you can directly harm a piece of hardware or software on your computer. I suggest you invest in a good program that will regularly scan your registry and clean it out for you. Have your PC running at optimal speed, by keeping the registry clean in windows!

Think of it as an oil change in your vehicle. If you waited to long after an oil change was due, eventually your vehicle would break down and cause you to spend even more money to get it fixed, or replaced.

With the advent of PCs, DVDs, Mp3 players and iPods, taking your movies and music along with you has never been easier. Building your portable library however can be an expensive venture if you are paying a fee every time you download a movie, game or music. Fortunately, there are many different movie download services to evaluate and join to watch unlimited free movies.

So, how do you evaluate a movie download service and watch unlimited free movies? First, it’s important to note that most movie download networks are not completely free. They usually have a set up fee or there may be a monthly charge. There are 4 important criteria that a respectable movie download service should meet. This will tell you whether or not you will get a valuable and enjoyable service for your money.

The first thing you should look for in a movie download service is a guarantee of no spyware, adware or pop-ups. Spyware, adware and pop-ups are not only annoying; they can be downright dangerous to your computer system. Many people also consider them an invasion of privacy.

Second. Look for a movie download service that allows you to download and watch unlimited free movies. You should not be charged a service fee every time you download a movie. Another thing to watch for is a recurring monthly fee. The best movie download services will have a one time set up fee with no per movie download fee and no monthly service fee.

Third. Check to see if the movie download service you are considering also has games, music and other types of media available for download. There is where you will get the most bangs for your buck. Some movie download services will also offer sporting events, music videos and even your favorite TV programs. The more options that are offered, the better chances you have of being well satisfied with the money you have spent of your movie download service. Some movie download services will also offer sporting events, music videos and even your favorite TV programs.

Fourth. Technical support is vital. A great movie download service isn’t worth much if you can’t get technical support when necessary. The best services will offer 24 hour technical support assistance and you should be able to reach someone via email or by phone if you have a question or a problem with your service. If the technical support is via email, the turn around time to get an answer to your question should be 24 hours or less.

Armed with these 4 important criteria to evaluate the multitude of movie download services available on the internet, knowing how to evaluate a movie download service should appear to be a bit easier. If a movie download service meets the minimum criteria, you may be reasonably sure you can watch unlimited free movies for a long time to come.

Spyware can intercept and take partial control over a user?s interaction with a computer, without the user?s informed consent. The first recorded use of spyware was on October 16th 1995. However spyware at first was meant to be denoted hardware meant specifically for espionage purposes.

In 2000 Gregor Freud, who is the founder of Zone Labs used the term spyware in a press release for ZoneAlarm Personal firewall. It was since this press release that spyware has taken on its present sense.

Computer systems that are running Microsoft Windows have seen spyware be a preeminent threat since 2006. This is especially true if the computer system uses Internet Explorer as its main browser.

Computers with Internet Explorer as their main browsing site are particularly vulnerable because Internet Explorer is the most widely used browser and also because it has a tight integration with windows, which allows spyware to access crucial parts of an operating system.

Another potentially malicious piece of software is Adware. Although the intentional use of Adware is in a none harmful way, as it was made to simply display adverts, such as pop ups, it has the potential for misuse. Adware and spyware are similar to viruses in the sense that they can be malicious in nature; however people are profitting from these threats making them more popular.

Programmes such as Eudora Mail Client display adverts instead of using Shareware fees. This is a prime example of adware being used in the intended way; as advert supported software, used in this way adware is not classed as a bad thing.

The way in which spyware has been designed is so that it exploits infected computers for commercial gain. Spyware monitors the web browsing activity of Internet users and uses this to target products at the internet user that reflects there search engine use.

Spyware does what the name states, it spies on you, it takes note of your web browsing activities and then targets you based on its findings. Spyware isn?t just about getting you to click on pop up adverts; it has the potential to start taking control of your computer by adding toolbars to your browser window as well as redirecting your homepage.

Although spyware doesn?t spy on you in the sense of taking your identity, it has the potential to do this. Spyware can take things such as credit card numbers if you purchase items online. Spyware has the potential to be a very dangerous piece of software and one that everyone should be made aware of.

Spyware can also affect your disc usage, taking up space on it meaning you could run out of disc space for important documents as well as slowing your computer down.

There are many anti-spyware solutions around that could greatly help your computer. However there are also a lot of fake anti-spyware programmes around. One way in which these fake anti-spyware programmes target you is through banner ads on websites. These banner ads usually tell you that your computer is infected and that by clicking on the banner ads you can download the latest anti-spyware software. This may be true but this ?latest? software is actually fake software that won?t get rid of spyware and will more than likely cause your computer to have more spyware.

In order to get rid of spyware in a safe way you should always get your anti-spyware software from a genuine website.

Today, more and more people are using their computers for everything from communication to online banking and investing to shopping. As we do these things on a more regular basis, we open ourselves up to potential hackers, attackers and crackers. While some may be looking to phish your personal information and identity for resale, others simply just want to use your computer as a platform from which to attack other unknowing targets. Below are a few easy, cost-effective steps you can take to make your computer more secure.

1. Always make backups of important information and store in a safe place separate from your computer.

2. Update and patch your operating system, web browser and software frequently. If you have a Windows operating system, start by going to www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com and running the update wizard. This program will help you find the latest patches for your Windows computer. Also go to www.officeupdate.microsoft.com to locate possible patches for your Office programs.

3. Install a firewall. Without a good firewall, viruses, worms, Trojans, malware and adware can all easily access your computer from the Internet. Consideration should be given to the benefits and differences between hardware and software based firewall programs.

4. Review your browser and email settings for optimum security. Why should you do this? Active-X and JavaScript are often used by hackers to plant malicious programs into your computers. While cookies are relatively harmless in terms of security concerns, they do still track your movements on the Internet to build a profile of you. At a minimum set your security setting for the ?internet zone? to High, and your ?trusted sites zone? to Medium Low.

5. Install antivirus software and set for automatic updates so that you receive the most current versions.

6. Do not open unknown email attachments. It is simply not enough that you may recognize the address from which it originates because many viruses can spread from a familiar address.

7. Do not run programs from unknown origins. Also, do not send these types of programs to friends and coworkers because they contain funny or amusing stories or jokes. They may contain a Trojans horse waiting to infect a computer.

8. Disable hidden filename extensions. By default, the Windows operating system is set to ?hide file extensions for known file types?. Disable this option so that file extensions display in Windows. Some file extensions will, by default, continue to remain hidden, but you are more likely to see any unusual file extensions that do not belong.

9. Turn off your computer and disconnect from the network when not using the computer. A hacker can not attack your computer when you are disconnected from the network or the computer is off.

10. Consider making a boot disk on a floppy disk in case your computer is damaged or compromised by a malicious program. Obviously, you need to take this step before you experience a hostile breach of your system.

Adware Spyware

Adware and spyware, knowing the basics

People think that there is actually no difference between a spyware and an adware. Spyware is just a web term used to refer to an advertising supported software, which is otherwise known as adware. These are the pop-up ads that often come out whenever we open a website or download a shareware software. But according to some web experts, spyware is much much more.

Supporters of spyware and adware say that though it can be pretty annoying at times especially if you are really in a hurry, both do give consumers huge benefits. Because the product ads generate income for developers of shareware software, consumers can get them for free. Developers are in turn paid for their work. Of course, if you don?t want to be bothered by the constant pop-ups, you can always pay the licensing fee or the regular fee for the software. If you want it for free, you just have to sacrifice through the spyware.

There is however another downside to it. Spyware, from the name given to it, is actually used as a tracking device in your computer system. These tracking devices will look into your surfing habits, your chatting logs and even the number of times you open your email. If designed or programmed the right way, it can discover just about everything else in your system.
And because the program runs in the background, there is no way that a person can control the kind of information that he or she sends out.

These kinds of programs were actually originally used by parents or people in the business sector who wish to track down and put on record web activity. It is actually beneficial but not when people are not aware that they are being tracked down. This is often the case when people download software over the Internet. As mentioned before, it is used by companies to advertise their products and in turn help the developers of software keep their costs down so that they can afford to offer their programs for free.

Although privacy issues indeed come into play, there is nothing illegal about it. In fact, its use is prevalent all over the World Wide Web. There are however some areas that people who value their privacy will object to. Because of this, people are given the option to refuse the software.

There is really no way that one can avoid adware and spyware as these programs are packaged with the software that you will be downloading from the Internet. The most that you can do is to avoid downloading from the internet and to refuse any file downloads that you did not personally authorize. It is also good to only view websites that have a good reputation or those that have anti-spyware and adware programs installed in their pages.

Has your computer been acting stragenly lately?Lets face it, about 95% of people who actively surf the internet have computers which are infected by spyware. So what is spyware and how does it get into your computer system.Spyware is constantly spreading and is infecting lots more computers every single day. So what is it? Spyware programs come in many different shapes and sizes but all have a couple of things in common. Spyware infects your computer while you surf the internet without you even knowing about it,spyware can also gain access to and send your personal information from your computer to other computers without you even knowing, and apart from the fact that it can be VERY difficult to find, trying to uninstall or disable it successfully can be a mission.

Lets have a look at some methods of how spyware can infect your computer as well as the common symptoms.

1. An Email Disguised as an innocent file or some form of attachment. Once you open the email it goes to work by infecting your computer.

2. Website- Passed via your browser by bad websites. Once again disguised as an innocent download of some sort. Once the download is installed and run, you are already infected. Some websites are also able to use cookies which they use to track your movement when surfing from website to website.Despite this, do not become too worried and block all your cookies. Some websites do use cookies for legitimate reasons.

3.Sometimes spyware can be bundled together with other programs without your knowledge.

Symptoms of spyware include:

1.Your Home Page – The Changing your of browsers default home page is a common symptom used by many spyware programs. So if your home page suddenly changes to a diferrent homepage automatically then you might be infected with Spyware.

2. Sometimes strange new websites pop up in your favorites. This is also a common symptom as a result of spyware programs. The occurance that certain websites often come back when your computer restarts even if deleted can be another trick of spyware programs.

3.Very slow computer – You should check if your computer is running slower than usual. A lot of spyware programs use a lot of your computers memory to run.So If you notice that your computer is chugging along, once again odds are that it is most likely infected with spyware.

4.Lots of pop up adverts. If you suddenly start receiving more pop up adverts than normal, you might have a problem. Spyware programs can also be used to serve popup ads while you browse the internet,or even only when your internet connection is on. Most are adult website type pop ups while others may appear to come from harmless site.

Now I have had consinuous problems with spyware and have looked around for a good program which can help me combat spyware problems.I have had good success with a progeram called XoftSpySE.For more information about XoftSpySE please check out my homepage below.

When you buy a new computer you must protect your investment from malicious software programs such as viruses, worms, spyware, and trojans. These programs can cause serious damage to your computer system by erasing data or providing your sensitive data to criminals. You can help protect your personal computer by installing antivirus software to remove and prevent nasty viruses and spyware.

There are various antivirus programs available on the market and while they all do the same job, there are several things to keep in mind when choosing a program.

First you will want to consider the ease of use of the software. The average computer user is not tech savvy so you will want your antivirus software to be very user friendly. Look for features such as easy configuration as well as scanning your system on demand. The software should also automatically check for updates.

A good antivirus program will also be able to remove dangerous viruses, trojans, and worms and prevent new ones from infecting your computer. If the program cannot completely remove these viruses, it should at the minimum be able to keep the virus from spreading.

It is also important to ask if the software is a system hog. Many antivirus programs can use up a lot of your computer’s resources slowing down your system. This can cause problems if you plan on running your antivirus software in the background while you continue to work. There are many good programs available that use resources more effectively. They run unnoticed in the background while you continue to work normally.

Some antivirus programs do include spyware prevention but in order to be fully protected, you may opt for purchasing separate spyware software as well. A separate spyware program can help ensure that your computer is safe from spyware issues that a combo program may not be equipped to catch.

Adware Spyware Download

Covert Online Spies

The Internet is a powerful tool that provides everyone online a way to be connected to each other, gather a lot of information and enjoy convenient services like online shopping and banking. However, many of us Internet users are at constant risk of adware and spyware downloads that make us extremely vulnerable to malicious acts.

We often unknowingly fall prey to adware and spyware downloads as we innocently use the Internet. These adware and spyware downloads can come bundled with some freeware programs we use and sometimes, simply browsing a site puts us at risk. The business of being infected with unwanted adware and spyware downloads can be very serious. Some adware and spyware or malware proliferate the Web to infect our computer systems which gives us no control over unsolicited pop ups as part of targeted market efforts.

On extreme criminal cases however, spyware called malware, is used to take note of keystrokes, scan our computer’s hard drive and steal important passwords and financial information. The information gathered covertly is used for identity theft, which can cause us major headache and at least thousands of dollars to clear our names.

These adware and spyware are unknowingly infect our computers and most of the time, we don’t even know that they there. However, you can start becoming suspicious of adware and spyware downloaded into your system when you begin to have uncontrolled pop-ups from unsolicited sources. Sometimes, even without the telltale pop up ads you may notice a suspicious slow down in your computer’s processing without any apparent reason. Your system slows down because these adware and spyware parasitically use up your system’s resources to be able to perform their functions.

The only way you can be sure if your computer system is infected with adware and spyware downloads is by installing an anti spyware program that will detect and flush out the unwanted programs. The proper anti spyware can also prevent future adware and spyware downloads. You need to choose an anti spyware program that does both.

Be wary of downloading anti spyware on the Net because some spyware are disguised and marketed as a free anti spyware.

One more thing you can do to protect yourself from unwittingly downloading adware and spyware programs is to read the fine print. When installing a new program into your computer, you are asked to tick off an option of whether you agree or disagree with the programs end user license agreement (EULA). Do yourself a favor and read what is written in the agreement before agreeing to proceed in the installation. Many shareware and freeware programs come bundled with spyware and adware programs and in some cases you can learn about them by reading the agreement carefully.

Because adware and spyware come bundled with your download, these programs will not run independently of the spyware it comes with. This means that if you have a good anti-spyware system installed in your computer, you won’t be able to install the infected program.

Consequently, if an existing program infected with spyware is in your system, your anti spyware system will attempt to remove the infection. Since most spyware are closely bundled into certain programs, the removal of the spyware may cause the legitimate program it comes with to stop functioning as well.
